Lee Kline and Ryan Hullings met in 2006 when Lee placed an ad for a guitar player to form a “space rock band.” Shortly after that, Ryan joined Lee at The Criterion Collection in NYC and became the manager of the audio department there. Working with a group of talented and world class Criterion technicians, Lee continued as technical director and to this day they oversee the picture and sound of every Criterion release.
It became apparent that there were many people like Lee and Ryan working behind the scenes (in dark rooms on a monitor with headphones and speakers) with stories that no one was getting to hear. They decided to change all that with The Dead Pixel Podcast. We’re working with some great technicians and producers, including audio editing from sound editors Michael Wiese and Jabari Williams, and assistance from our friends Susan Arosteguy and Keith Gonzales, so that these stories from the dark now can see the light.
